Professional Development Program
The IRWA promotes professional development, improved service to employers and the public, and advancements within the right of way. Our SR/WA Professional Designation (Senior Member, International Right of Way Association) recognizes individuals who have achieved professional status through experience, education and examination. SR/WA Candidacy Application Process Update
Now, to apply for Candidacy, you fill out the Candidacy Declaration form and send it directly into the World Headquarters Office. Once we have processed your Declaration, you and your chapter’s PDC Chair will be notified via email. You are then eligible to take the SR/WA Exam(s). Once all of the requirements for the certification or designation have been met, you will then fill out the Completion Application and send that in to your Chapter’s PDC Chair. They will review it, and once it is approved, they will send it into the WHQ Office for processing. After the Completion Application has been processed, you will again by notified via email.

The SR/WA Designation
SR/WA - Senior Member, International Right of Way Association -
is the most prestigious professional designation granted by IRWA to members who have
achieved professional status through experience, education and examination.
The SR/WA designation requires training and examination in several major right
of way disciplines. The SR/WA designations says, "I have more than five years
of right of way experience, plus I have had formal training in a wide variety of
right of way areas.
The SR/WA professional may be a specialist in one area such as acquisition, relocation
or law, but also must be familiar with the other disciplines associated with the right
of way profession. The SR/WA designation is the only designation reflecting evidence
of professional attainment in the right of way field.

Certification Program
The Right of Way (R/W) Certification is a professional designation granted to IRWA members who
have achieved professional status through experience, education and examination in a specific
discipline.
Earning this certification demonstrates an unparalleled achievement in a single discipline and
reinforces a standard of excellence in services provided to the public.
The International Right of Way Association offers certification in five disciplines:
- Appraisal
- Asset (Property) Management
- Environmental
- Negotiation/Acquisition
- Relocation Assistance

IRWA Launches Uniform Relocation Act (URA) Certification
The URA Certification is a
multidisciplinary professional certification granted to IRWA members who have achieved
professional status through experience, education and examination in the Uniform
Relocation Assistance and Real Property Acquisition Policies Act (URA).
